Clinical Supervision

What do you offer?

I offer clinicial supervision to therapists  and counsellors both outdoors and online.  Although I work outdoors, this is certainly not a requirement for my supervisees.  It can bring an oasis of nature into your working week to do supervision outdoors, if you work mostly indoors or online.

What is your training and experience?

I completed a year long course with Relight in Creative Clinical Supervision which was grounded in person-centred values and further enhanced my ability to work in a way which is responsive, holding and creative.  I have 15 years of experience as a therapist and 10 years before that as a youthworker.  I am also a writer which sometimes makes its way into supervision work if it feels useful.

How to you work as a supervisor?

I am an Integrative Counsellor, and just as I seek to tailor my approach to each client in front of me, I do the same with each supervisee.   I hold an attentive, curious stance which seeks to understand what will work best for you at this point in your career.  There are various models which I fold into my way of working (the joys of being integrative!), but my touchstones are the three functions of supervision from Hawkins and Shohet: Educative/Developmental, Supportive/Resourcing and Quality Control, as well as their 7-eyed model.  It is an integrative, responsive model giving us different lenses through which to focus our attention.  The seven eyes are: the client, interventions used, the therapist (you), the relationship between therapist and client, the relationship between therapist and supervisor (me), the supervisor and the wider, systemic context.  Often I/we will move between different lenses as seems appropriate.  Each of these models hold the duality that supervision is in the service of our clients, and that the therapist is a person with a needs, biases, strengths, dislikes and vulnerabilities which require care and attention for them to be of service to their clients.

It is vital, if supervision is to be educative and aid our development, that we as practitioners feel safe enough to bring our queries, mistteps, uncertainties.  I aim to be a sufficiently safe and supportive presence to enable all parts of you - personal and professional - to come into the supervisory work.

How frequently do you meet supervisees?

I aim to work flexibily and responsively, whilst holding boundaries so that there is fairness and clarity.

Professional bodies have varying requirements for supervision, so I would expect that my supervisees would be receiving adequate supervision for their caseload, whether from me, another supervisor or peer/group supervision.
I would suggest that to build a sound working alliance, that we meet a bit more frequently in the first few months of working together if that was possible.

Where do you work and how much do you charge?

My outdoor sessions are held at Eastville Park in Bristol, which is 10 minutes east of the city centre.  It is a lovely park and offers a variety of settings - there is woodland where we can sit, level-access paths for walking as we work and benchs for when a combination is needed.  I find working there to be nourishing and enlivening.
I also work online, using Whereby.  If we worked online, I would be keen to explore how we could do so creatively.
My fee is £65 per full hour, £95 per hour and a half.  Payment can be made in cash or online.  If you require a lower rate, please do get in touch to discuss this.

Do you offer an initial session?

I do!  And in fact, I would encourage this.  It is useful to meet
potential supervisors and explore how we might work

together, before commiting ourselves.  This initial session

would be at least one hour, but could be 1.5 if that worked

better for you.

Supervision can take place in a woodland setting.
